Ajay: My teacher discussed other techniques as pre-writing activity. One of them was mind mapping.

Vinay: What is mind mapping?

Ajay : When my English teacher explained mind mapping, I took some notes. I have got it here.

*A mind map is a visual tool to organize information.
*Research says that visuals have better impact in retaining information.
*Mind map begins with one central idea/thought and all related thoughts are organized around it.
*When we are talking of vocabulary, mind mapping is useful to organize connected words.
*Mind map is a colourful, pictorial representation of thoughts, ideas concepts.
*They are grouped and branch out to connected thoughts and ideas.
*They may include relevant vocabulary, idioms, phrases, data – all organized in a systematic manner.

Vinay: That sounds interesting. My teacher has asked given this question for article writing. Let us try mind mapping to have a go at relevant vocabulary.

Increase in the number of vehicles causes pollution and traffic jams. Write an article in 150-200 words highlighting the urgent need to solve these man-made problems, giving suitable suggestions.

Ajay: Now let us try Mind mapping.

Ajay: This appears great. Now that we have got points for the different aspects o the question, we will elaborate and organize them in different paragraphs.

Vinay: OK. We will meet again tomorrow afternoon and see what we have got.

The next day Ajay and Vinay met and they had considerable number of points for each paragraphs. They sorted them and came to the next stage of organizing and writing the different paragraphs.
